Dirk Friel started bike racing in 1982 at the age of twelve and has not stopped since. In 1992, while in Belgium, he turned professional and retired from the pro ranks in 2002. His diverse experience includes classics such as Het Volk and stage races such as the Tour Du Pont and the Tour of Malaysia. Dirk has top-ten placings in both the U.S. pro road and criterium championships.

Dirk is a cycling coach specializing in road, mountain bike, and training with power. He is also the cofounder of Training Peaks.com, The Endurance Operating System.

Dirk owes his active lifestyle and cycling fortunes to the example his parents, Joe and Joyce, set at an early age. He and his wife, Kimberly, live in Boulder, Colorado, and have a daughter, Keara.
