Scott Tinley was one of the defining figures of the growing sport of triathlon in the 1970s and 1980s. A two-time winner of the prestigious Hawaii Ironman, he competed in more than 400 events, winning close to 100 of them. He has served as a television commentator, run a successful sportswear company, and been a marketing consultant for such companies as PowerFood, Timex, and Litespeed bicycles. A freelance writer, he teaches college English. He lives with his wife and children in the San Diego area.
